A middle-aged Medford man was sentenced to life in prison yesterday for raping two deaf children in his home - one of them over a period of four years, beginning when she was 12.

The punishment was meted out to Philip Duffy, 48 - who is also deaf - by Middlesex Superior Court Judge Diane Kottmyer. Prosecutors said the "extremely vulnerable" girls knew Duffy. A jury found him guilty in August of eight counts of raping a child, indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14 and over age 14 and posing a child in a state of nudity.
